Sheriff Warns Residents Of A Phone Scam (video)

Scammers will try to suck money out of anyone- even a Texas Sheriff.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls recorded himself speaking with a phone scammer who claimed to be a representative of the Publishers Clearing House.

Scammer: “Sir, this is the truth.  This is the Publishers Clearing House, and we do change the life.  And that’s what we are going to do today.”

The scammer claims that Nehls won, but in order for him to collect his prize, he’ll need to go to his bank and wire money to the scammer.

In the video, Sheriff Nehls who is also known as the “Tough Sheriff” offers some tips to keep you from becoming a victim:

Signs Of A Potential Scam:

  • The scammer asks for an advance fee
  • The offer seems too good to be true
  • Caller puts pressure on you
  • Untraceable Payment Method
  • Grammatical errors
  • They want your private information

  • Fraudulent Fake Checks Scams
  • Dating and Relationship Scams

Two Important Tips:

  • Never pay advance fees or ‘taxes’
