A 5-year-old Texas boy with spina bifida wants anyone to brighten his special day by sending him a birthday card.
Kaison Garza — who suffers from spina bifida and just started to walk a year ago — turns five-years-old later this month.
He wants just one thing for his birthday — cards, and lots of them.
Just minutes after he was born in 2015, Kaison was rushed to surgery.
“His spine was sticking out at the bottom of his back and fluid was shooting out,” said Kaison’s father Robert Garza.
Doctors told his parents Kaison would never walk or talk
The only thing we can do is be there for him and pray,” said his mom Traci Garza.
After an ultrasound at 20 weeks, doctors told Tracy that she should have an abortion because of the complications with spina bifida.
“I said no way. I was not going to do that regardless the way he looked or whatever was wrong with him. I wanted to be there with him,” said Traci.
Kaison had to have a shunt inserted into his head because of excess fluid.
It will need to be changed every four years, for the rest of his life.
So far, Kasion has had 20 surgeries from complications.
“One time they had to fly him to Lubbock to get the shunt adjusted and fixed and put another one back in,” said Traci.
Last week, Kaison’s parents asked him what he wanted for his birthday. He said he just wanted lots of birthday cards.
