The first COVID-19 case in Texas was reported on February 12. Since then, there have been a total of 12,561 cases of COVID-19 reported, according to the state’s Department of Health and Human Services. At least 254 people have died and an estimated 1,617 people have recovered.
On Saturday, state health officials confirmed the number of COVID-19 cases grew by 890 in less than 24 hours, an increase of 8% over the previous day.
According to the data, 120,533 tests for the virus have been conducted across the state.
Next week Governor Greg Abbott will be issuing an executive order which will detail plans to reopen businesses while protecting lives. “Restoring livelihoods is important but must be done safely,” Abbott said in a news conference on April 10th.
Abbott didn’t offer details on the executive order but said the state is working with the White House on the process and reopening would have to be gradual.
