Flu activity in Texas at highest level in 10 years, according to Texas Department of State Health Services

New data released by the Texas Department of State Health Services says flu activity in Texas is the highest it’s been in 10 years.

The agency reports the flu is responsible for about 16% of medical visits so far this season and urges everyone 6 months and older to get vaccinated about the flu, particularly pregnant women, young children, older adults and people with chronic health conditions.

The flu has killed eight children across the state.

Texas DSHS says the best way to prevent getting the flu is to get vaccinated, wash your hands frequently, stay home if you’re sick, cover your coughs and sneezes and sanitize surfaces often.
