A man was shot by police Sunday afternoon in Alvin at approximately 5pm.
It happened at Alvin Missionary Baptist Church on West Lang Street. Church was not in session.
The suspect pointed a gun at his own head, then at officers, according to police.
That’s when officers opened fire and hit the suspect.
Alvin City councilman, Joel Castro offers his sympathies and prayers to all involved in the shooting.
“My prayers are with the first responders and their families, the suspect and the suspect’ss family,” saids Castro. “This is a tragedy that will affect everyone involved for a lifetime.”

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
July 15, 2018
On July 15, 2018, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Alvin Police Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding a disturbance at a residence in the 500 block of N. Fifth Street. The caller reported the actor was suicidal and had fired a shot in the home. Officers responded and discovered the actor had fled the scene on a motorcycle with the firearm.
Within minutes, the officers located the suspects motorcycle at a church in the 2000 block of W. Lang Street. As officer began searching for the suspect he emerged from an adjacent wooded area with the firearm. Officers gave repeated instructions for the suspect to put the weapon on the ground. The suspect repeatedly screamed at the officers to shoot him as he waved the gun around.
The suspect did finally place the weapon on the ground, but then suddenly retrieved the gun and brought it back up as the officers moved in on him. One officer fired on the suspect. The officers began immediate treatment of the victim until the arrival of EMS at which time the suspect was transported to a local hospital. The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Alvin Police have been joined in the investigation by the Brazoria County Sheriffs Office and the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation continues.
