Local moms group offers hope & support

Motherhood is a joy and calling for many women but is also hard work that can leave many mothers with feelings of loneliness and isolation. Just ask Taryn Melgoza and Amanda Dietrich, co-Coordinators of the local Pearland MOPs (Mothers of Preschoolers) –  a moms group that begin meeting at First United Methodist Church of Pearland in September 2016. They met at Crossfit before having kids, and actually had their 1st children within the same year. Amanda and Taryn became friends through their sharing of the joys and struggles of motherhood. They both made the decision to leave the 9-5 corporate workforce and stay home with their children. MOPs was a topic of conversation in their social circle, so they found and connected with a group in Friendswood. After 2 years with that group, they felt a calling to start a group in Pearland and the rest is history. MOPs is an amazing place for moms to meet with other moms, engage in authentic adult conversations and enjoy a much needed break from the full-time job of raising and spending time with kids.
The vision statement of Pearland MOPs is that it is a place where moms can come together in sisterhood, be loved and uplifted in fellowship and encouragement, with God as the glue. In the group’s inaugural year (2016/17), there were 60 members and 75 children in the MOPPETS kids program and these numbers look consistent for the 2017/18 year. Pearland MOPs wants to be known for its sisterhood culture, an uplifting environment that edifies one another and represents the love of Christ in word and action.
Motherhood can be daunting, but Pearland MOPs provides the safe space to remind mothers that choosing freedom over fear results in a courageous life.
